Pooles Wharf Bridge

Pooles Wharf pedestrian and cycle bridge is situated in the Harbour side of Bristol. Graham construction undertook the refurbishment, including repainting of the bridge in its original blue colour, also widening the deck by installing a handrail and parapet to each side.

SRK were appointed to scaffold the entire structure, this particular scaffold was designed to have very little contact points with the steel, thereby reducing the need for snagging the finished painted steel once the scaffold had started to be dismantled.

A combination of 450mm and 750mm HAKI beams were attached to the bridge to form an access deck to the entire base of the bridge, enabling our operatives to form a fully boarded access scaffold to both sides of the bridge.

450mm aluminium beams were introduced to the top lift to form a weather tight roof, the shrink wrap cover also allowed the main contractor to work during adverse weather conditions and to control the ambient temperature within the covered structure. In addition this also prevented any spent blast from the operation ending up in the harbour.

Although the bridge was closed to the public we still needed to maintain access to the 17th century harbour, this required the scaffold to be stepped, creating an access point with enough room for small boats to sail through.
