Anti-Modern Slavery Policy

Modern slavery encompasses slavery, servitude, human trafficking and forced labour. SRK has a zero-tolerance approach to any form of modern slavery. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity and transparency in all business dealings and to putting effective systems and controls in place to safeguard against any form of modern slavery taking place within the business or our supply chain.

This policy statement is made pursuant to s.54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps that SRK has taken and is continuing to take to ensure that modern slavery or human trafficking is not taking place within our business or supply chain.

Our high-risk areas

We are a scaffolding contractor, providing services to a large range of customers in the South-West. Given the nature of our services, we believe that we are a low risk organisation because:

  • the vast majority of our employees are required to hold construction industry qualifications;
  • all of our employees have documented contracts of employment;
  • we are committed to providing our employees with industry norm pay and conditions; and
  • we do not sub-contract any of our scaffolding services.

Nonetheless, we continue to be vigilant and we do have arrangements in place to ensure that the company does not inadvertently become involved in modern slavery through the actions of its suppliers of scaffolding equipment and scaffolding kit maintenance services.

Related policies

Other policies in place to ensure that we conduct business in an ethical and transparent manner include:

  1. Anti-slavery, which sets out the organisation’s stance on modern slavery and explains how employees can identify any instances of this and where they can go for help.
  2. Recruitment which includes conducting eligibility to work in the UK checks for all employees to safeguard against human trafficking or individuals being forced to work against their will.
  3. Whistle blowing, so that all employees know that they can raise concerns without fear of reprisal.

Our suppliers

Our supply-chain is low risk since we do not contract out scaffolding services and our equipment is purchased from reputable manufacturers and distributors. Nevertheless, we do have processes in place to guard against slavery in our supply chain as set out below. We carry out an online search to check that suppliers have never been convicted of offences relating to modern slavery. In addition, we require that suppliers confirm to us that:

  • they have taken steps to eradicate modern slavery within their business;
  • they hold their own suppliers to account over modern slavery
  • (for UK based suppliers) they pay their employees at least the national living wage; and
  • (for suppliers of overseas-made scaffolding kit) they pay their employees any prevailing minimum wage applicable within their country of operations

Training and performance indicators

We provide training to our senior managers on how to identify potential modern slavery occurrences in the company and in the supply chain and we will take immediate action in the event of reports from employees, the public, or law enforcement agencies to indicate that modern slavery practices have been identified in SRK or any of its suppliers.
